Goals and Characteristics
This fellowship is a clinically-based training experience designed to mature the diagnosis, decision-making, and technical skills of a trained orthopaedic surgeon seeking special proficiency in hip and knee replacement surgery. The applicant is expected to have achieved a high degree of technical proficiency in hip and knee replacement surgery following completion of his/her residency, which will be further enhanced by an intensive operative experience in a high volume private practice environment. This Fellow will also supervise a weekly joint replacement conference with two local affiliated orthopaedic residency training programs.
The research portion of the Texas Hip & Knee Center Fellowship Program is also clinically-based. During the course of the year, the Fellow is expected to complete two clinical projects suitable for publication in a peer review journal. The Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in multiple ongoing clinical research projects and will have access to an extensive computer-based clinical data bank.
The evolving business aspects of developing and managing a joint replacement practice will be incorporated as part of the curriculum of the one-year fellowship program. The applicant must be Board-eligible or certified and obtain a Texas state medical license.
